The Essential Editing and Proofreading service will polish your final draft, clarify and improve your writing without changing your meaning. Small, sentence-level edits will improve the language and correct basic errors. This service is best suited as a final check and polishing of research manuscripts, proposals, statements, or of any document to be free from errors.

Copy editing is editing to ensure correctness, accuracy, consistency, and completeness (Editors Canada).
This service is a deep edit that makes your manuscript ready for initial submission. Expanded Editing corrects errors, enhances readability, improves phrasing and clarity, and applies a consistent formatting style indicated by you or your target journal. It includes all the elements of the Essential Editing/Proofreading editing service but also may make the text consistent in terms of spelling, punctuation, and usage.
Also includes stylistic editing, which is editing to clarify meaning, ensure coherence and flow, and refine the language (Editors Canada).
Stylistic editing, also called line editing, is performed at the sentence and paragraph level to ensure the language and tone are appropriate for the intended audience. Editing includes changes in word use and sentence structure to clarify meaning while preserving your authorial voice. Copyediting plus also includes rearranging small items such as figures and tables if necessary within the manuscript, correcting and commenting on organization, and ensuring that the text is highly readable and ready for publication without further editing. Copy editing does not usually include heavy rewriting, formatting, or fact checking.
WHAT WILL YOU RECEIVE?
This Copyediting Plus Service requires double the amount of time to be spent on the improvement and correction of the document. This might be required if:
there are an above-average number of errors; you need extra assistance with rewording, organisation or structure; or if significant word reduction is required; English is your second language; or you’d like your editor to spend additional time on any aspect of editing.
This type of editing is good for a variety of texts. It is primarily intended for documents that will not undergo further editing before publication. It is also appropriate for research manuscripts that need a heavier edit that includes reorganization.

Structural or developmental editing is assessing and shaping material to improve its organization and content (Editors Canada). Structural editing involves assessing the content and organization of your document. Structural or developmental editing helps you improve all aspects of scientific presentation in your paper. This is the most comprehensive edit. It includes all the features of the Copyediting Plus services. In addition, you will receive editing and feedback relevant to the overall structure and clarity. Your paper will be carefully reviewed, edited, and you will be provided advice on your presentation of:
• Study objectives, research question, and hypothesis
• Study rationale
• Context and impact
• Logical thought progression and argument flow
• Methods and conclusions
• Figures and tables
• Concision and overall length
WHAT WILL YOU RECEIVE?
The Structural Editing-Plus Service further structures the manuscript/document to improve its organisation and content. It helps to further clarify meaning, improve readability and flow, and ensures that language use is appropriate to the nature of the material and its target readers. The scientific report, if requested, also includes journal submission advice. Developmental editing orders are returned on a 7-day timeline.
The goals of the service include:
• Simplifying and clarifying any complex hypotheses or study objectives

If you request a scientific report, will be provided with suggestions or tips for ways to eliminate redundancy or improve clarity in your writing. This will also include advice for further preparing the manuscript for submission for a specific journal and for anticipating any potential concerns that the editors or reviewers may have, if you are targeting a specific journal.
After a developmental edit, we will be happy to take a second look at a few pages, free of charge. If you think that you may make significant changes (>30% or additions >20%) after our edits, consider the unlimited re-edits service.
